Located in Kirkwood, Mo., we are the cutest and most interesting nursery this side of the Mississippi! We specialize in rare and unusual perennials, but also carry a full line of shrubs, roses, vines, annuals, and tropicals. We also have a great gift shop.
All of our employees are complete plant freaks (except for Michael, our “muscle,” but we let him slide…). If you want to talk plants, Sugar Creek Gardens is the place to do it.

I have a huge Lenten rose, which is blooming now, and I’m wondering if you can separate them, or is this not the time of the yr. to do it?
I would separate them either now or in the fall. They do bloom on old wood, so don’t cut back in the fall, but separating them when the weather is cool should be fine. Good luck!
Just a note since I’m the helle-bore…most hellebores really resent disturbance. Don’t divide (or move) unless you absolutely HAVE to, especially if it’s an old, established clump.
The above regarding Muscle Michael should be revised. He is now definitely a plant nerd too after years at Sugar Creek and studies within Meramec’s Hort program. Besides, his mind is like a sponge, absorbing everything. We all can go to Michael for answers to plant ?’s!
how do you take care of roses?
Yeah, your web site and info re: “red spirit” winterberry gave me the name of a male plant I need. Kids gave me “her” last Christmas ’09.
I am interested in ordering “Jim Dandy” to keep “her” berrying;
please send order information.
Thank you Very Much
